It's been a while since I have posted. All the snow days this winter have made school super busy as we try to catch up on all our missed days. In addition, I had midterms the past few weeks so most of my days have been spent studying in the library. But now I'm on spring break and finally have a chance to rest and to blog! Over the past couple of weeks our global medical brigade group at school has been meeting and discussing the trip to Ghana. We have been learning how to appreciate Ghana as a country and not see it as a poor helpless country. During our meeting we watched a video on the dangers of a single story. Meaning it is wrong to view Africa through only one lens and see it only as a continent that so desperately needs our help. Instead we should realize Africa is a continent made up of many unique countries, with diverse and skillful people that live there. This is the Ted Talk Video about the Danger of a Single Story: Also, we've booked our flight to Ghana! This is extremely exciting, because it means we are one step closer to Ghana! We will be traveling to the Central Region of Ghana near the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. While there, we will be working alongside the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Program in the Mfantesman District. We have also been reviewing the trip schedule, which involves door to door visits and public health clinics. All of this information about our trip makes me expectantly await our departure date. But for now we have a lot more to take care of. We still have a large amount of funds to raise so that we can buy medications to take along on the trip. Some of the ways we are fundraising are by selling pizza and chocolate covered pretzels and by having a block party at our school where we will be selling food and hosting a variety of activities for the students.. For my own personal trip fundraising I am still selling headbands which has been going pretty well but I still have quite a few in stock. (They are only $5 if you want to get one: www.etsy.com/shop/WanderMission) Anyway, all in all this trip preparation has been going well. School has been busy but my excitement for the trip has not faded. I am excited to continue on this adventure!
