I am in love with these African Turban Headbands! They come in two lovely colors-Dawn Blue and Sunset Orange. I got the fabric for these beautiful headbands from my trip to Ghana. On our last day in Ghana we visited an amazing market. It was filled with so many wonderful things. Handmade jewelry, ethnic shirts, house decorations, and stacks and stacks of gorgeous Ghanaian fabric. Ghana is well known throughout Africa for its beautiful textiles. I loved being able to look through all of the colorful fabrics and select the ones I would take home with me.
When I got home I laid the fabric out on my bedroom floor and just admired it. It was so amazing and I felt like I had a piece of Ghana home with me. As I sat hypnotized by the fabric, I thought, what am I going to do with all of this fabric? It deserves to be made into something, to be used, to be seen everyday. So I decided to make headbands out of them! I already loved headbands and wore them almost everyday and I also loved making headbands. So it was a win-win! Thus the African Turban Headbands were birthed and I am very proud of them. So check them out and wear a piece of Ghana on your head :)

The legacy will live on! What's the legacy you may ask? Well it's Wander Mission. But not only as a blog, also as a business!
Remember how I sold headbands to raise money for my missions trips? Well it worked and I loved doing it! I loved making the headbands and I loved that the proceeds from them went to something I love even more, Missions! So I decided I'm going to keep on making headbands and allow my shop to flourish. Although I do not have a specific mission trip in my mind, I know that I will be going on them again..and again...and again....and I want to create a missions fund, so that when opportunity(God) calls I will be ready! I am going to be making fresh headbands and working on my online shop. All the proceeds are going to go towards my future trips. Feel Free to check out my shop and maybe even buy a headband or two...not for any special cause, but because they are pretty and made with love <3 (There are even headbands made from Ghanaian fabric I picked up in the markets of Africa.) Just click the Etsy headbands button below and it will take you to my lovely shop :) For now my traveling is done, and by "for now" I mean a couple of months, hopefully ;) Anyway this summer has been such an amazing experience. It is something I have been waiting for all my life. For the longest while I've wanted to travel and do mission work. I still can not believe I finally went to Africa! And Guyana was like a dream come true! My entire life has been affected by the Guyanese culture (since my parents are from Guyana). It was amazing to see a whole country filled with the culture I only saw glimpses of in my own home and daily life.
The one thing that these trips showed me is that I really do want to do missions with my life. It confirmed it all. But I learned that I definitely want to do long term missions. I think the hardest part of traveling this summer was leaving the country and the people behind. It was so hard to make real connections with the people and realize I might never see any of their faces again. I met many wonderful little children, I don't remember all their names, I might never see them again, and their faces might fade from my memory, but they will always have a chip of my heart. Cheesy but true! I really enjoyed writing this blog and just sharing my heart. And even though I don't have any trips coming up in the near future (not yet at least haha), I'm going to continue to share about my traveling desires, mission work I'm doing at home, and general heart to heart stuff. I would really love if you all kept reading this blog, but I guess in the end I'm just talking to myself and God... haha which is perfectly fine with me! Anyway have a wonderful day! I finally got around to making a video of our trip to Guyana! Check it out! |
